THE WAY AHEAD
This is the last Waymark of 2006 and it is appropriate to look towards the future and to 2007 in particular
Locally we are hoping and pushing for improvements in our path network.  There is certainly lots of talking going on and I am hoping for more action
.I expect our band of volunteers will be involved in path work and it would be good if this included extending the Castlemain Trail or opening up part of the old Breamore railway line as a path.  Even if this is not possible there are established paths we can improve.
Some members have expressed an interest in having more short walks and in having more than 1 per week.  This is only possible if more of you volunteer to lead walks.  The longer walks of 8-12 miles continue to be popular often attracting over 30 people and we cannot reduce their number.  Pat Whiteing our Programme Secretary aims to provide a balanced programme, varying the day, location and length of walks and spacing them out appropriately.  Prior negotiation of a date for walks is advisable in order to produce balance so please talk to Pat at an early stage of your planning.  We cannot have 2 walks one week and none another.  If anyone would like to become a walk leader talk to Pat or to me.  We can help you to get started.
In 2007 we are almost certain to see improvements in coastal access.  The government is planning to publish a consultation document on this in the New Year.  One day there may be a 11000 mile round Britain footpath.  There may be some diversions away from the coast to avoid military areas and some nature reserves but new areas will be opened up to walkers.
A good prospect.I hope you will all join in our activities in 2007 and I look forward to meeting up with you.
SEASONS GREETINGS    RUTH CROKER.
