News from the Ringwood and Fordingbridge Footpath  Society
THE WAY AHEAD

It was good to see so many of you at our AGM in March.  Three members of our Committee retired from their posts on that evening.  They have all given valuable service.
Keith Davis our Treasurer for 20years is also retiring as a walk leader.
Alison Sherman first joined the Committee as Publicity Secretary and later took over the post of Membership Secretary.
Sandi Bradshaw retired as Honorary Secretary.
They were thanked for all they have done for our Society and presentations were made to them.

We have recruited others to fill their posts.
Joy Tosdevin is taking over as Treasurer.
David Knapp will take on Joy’s role as Auditor
Julie Whiteing will take over as Publicity Secretary.
Marlene Sexton is taking over from Alison as Membership Secretary
Hazel Winch offered to arrange the distribution of Waymark.

Recruiting a Secretary proved more difficult and no one was elected to the post at the AGM.  Since then Hazel Winch has volunteered, so I have co-opted her.

I am very grateful to all of these people.  Without willing volunteers we could not run our Footpath Society.

I am pleased to report that the upper part of the Breamore Railway line path is now open as a permissive footpath.  It is possible to legally walk from South Charford to just south of the old Railway Station.  A map of the route is attached to the fingerpost on the A338 just opposite the Police House at Breamore.  The short cross-field path from the A338 to the track is easy to use.  There have been improvements to it and to other rights of way adjoining the track.  There are convenient bus stops on the X3 route if you want to take a look.  At the moment parking nearby is limited.  Hampshire County Council expects the rest of the route southwards to be open by spring 2011.  The bridge, mostly paid for by the National Park, is situated just north of the station and is impressive and large.  This is because of a need to meet standards set by the Environment Agency.  There will be a picture of the bridge elsewhere in Waymark.

I have arranged for Ann Sevier to show people around her farm on the 5th July.  Details are in the walks programme.  There will be very little walking.  If you are not sure if you can cope, contact me – some parking can be arranged nearer to Ann’s farm.  Those attending on a previous occasion found the visit very interesting and learn more about the life of a commoner.
